Auto Faxing

If you work in an office, you've likely walked past your office's fax machine and noticed roll upon roll of advertisements that obviously spewed out of the machine overnight.

While this seems to be common practice and is likely just a nuisance as it's a waste of paper, it's not harming anyone really.

What does harm people is a fax communications using their auto dialers on a residential line. At any time, day or night, your phone will ring. If, like me, you get mildly alarmed by truly late night phone and answer immediately. Upon answering, you get a rhythmic *beep*....pause...*beep*...

If you miss the call, your answering machine will end up containing a ten to twelve minute long rendition of beeppausebeep. If you hang up then pick up too quickly, at times, the fax calling you will not have disengaged, thereby holding the connection.

Solution? Step one; If the number has a name attached to it, as this one did, do a Google search. Done and done. This company actually has a "Fas Removal Form". I filled out the form, hit submit, and waited. We received another fax call within two days. No joy.

Step two; Call Bell, right? Well... It's the first step, to be sure. Bell's response was, "Hm, this DOES happen. Give me the numbers calling you, and Bell will send THEM a fax with a 'Remove customer from list'." Followed up by a "Let us know if this continues and you'll have to upgrade your service so you can block numbers."

Wait a second. I'LL have to upgrade MY phone service so I won't harassed by a fax company? Is that the way it works? No friggin' way. I refuse.

Step three; Contact the CRTC. Thier only occupation is enforcing rules. So if a telemarketer decides they want to ignore your attempts to get of their list, they need to pay the price. I'd prefer a good hearty ass-kicking, but that's neither here nor there.

We'll see. My contact is in and who knows how long it'll take. I'm crossing my fingers.

By the way, the two companies who have my RESIDENCE as a fax machine and have awakened my four and a half month old baby uncounted times since birth are Dynafax Canada and FaxTarget Communications. Feel free to hate them. I do.
